03-20-2013 10:41 PM -- By: Isha Sesay,  From: Atlanta

I am heartbroken to know Rena is no longer with us. When I decided I wanted to work for CNN, everyone I told simply laughed and said it was an impossible dream. Everyone, except Rena. She took a chance on me and I owe everything I have today, to her. I will forever be grateful for her bravery, guidance and the great kindness she always showed me. I believe she's now in a better place. Rena, rest in peace. Rob, Adam and Sabrina you are in my thoughts and prayers.

03-20-2013 10:38 PM -- By: Ram and Rajee,  From: Atlanta, GA

Rena was a wonderful source of support to us when we first moved into Atlanta. She took Ram under her wing when he joined CNN and during our early months here made an effort to get to know us outside work. Rena and Rob's affection touched us deeply at a time when we were just settling in. Her unstinting, genuine concern for those around her will be a shining reminder of what a life should be. Our thoughts and prayer are with you Rob, Adam, Sabrina, and Rena's parents and siblings.

03-20-2013 10:31 PM -- By: Sharon van Zwieten,  From: Scarsdale, New York

My boss, my colleague, my friend. You are with me forever, as you were present during some of the most exciting times in my career. May your love last more than a lifetime for your family and friends, and the many lives you touched along the way.

Sharon van Zwieten

03-20-2013 10:22 PM -- By: Shari Polis,  From: NYC

Rena's energy was so open, warm, funny, exciting, interested, happy, and fun. She showed me her family book which has the roots of her family with such care and enthusiasm. The few times I spent with her were inspiring and filled with happy energy.

03-20-2013 10:18 PM -- By: Jared Polis,  From: Boulder

Many fond memories, and much love forever. A remarkable woman, wife, journalist, producer, mother.

03-20-2013 10:04 PM -- By: Abb Jones,  From: Atlanta

I am so sad to learn of Rena's passing. Rena was smart, inspirational and funny - working with her during my years at CNN International was an absolute delight. Rena changed my life 17 years ago, when she sent me to Hong Kong on assignment, sparking a love of international travel which thrives today, and for which she knew I will always be grateful. Rest in peace, my friend.

03-20-2013 10:00 PM -- By: Nick Wrenn,  From: Atlanta

Rena was my boss while I worked in London and my colleague and friend in Atlanta. She was always supportive and helpful, always giving time to lend advice and invaluable tips. My wife Jill was also a colleague and we were both so sorry to hear the news of Rena's passing. Our thoughts are with the family.

03-20-2013 10:00 PM -- By: Susan Cohen,  From: Kennesaw, GA

You touched so many people in your life.  You touched mine so very briefly but I am a better person to have known you.  I am saddened by your loss but thankful that you are no longer in pain.

03-20-2013 9:59 PM -- By: Shirley Powell,  From: The Weather Channel

I adored Rena at CNN and was so happy to get you to The Weather Channel and have the opportunity to work with her again.   Everyone knew she was completely overqualified for her job, but I knew that was just our good fortune.  She was always smart, always happy, always positive, always capable and always a great role model for women and everyone else.  I'm blessed and glad I had the privaledge to know you.

03-20-2013 9:49 PM -- By: Monita Rajpal,  From: Hong Kong

Rena found me when I was just a young reporter working in a local tv station in Toronto. She brought me to anchor at CNN International in Atlanta. That was 2001. I remember meeting her on a Saturday afternoon. I remember feeling intimidated by being at CNN HQ, Rena immediately put me at ease. She helped me believe in my talent at a time when I was still trying to find myself. Rob, That's what made her an executive with a difference. Adam and Sabrina, thank you for sharing her with us. My thoughts are with you. With love, Monita

03-20-2013 9:48 PM -- By: Ralitsa Vassileva,  From:

Dear Rob, Sabrina and Adam,

Please accept my deepest sympathy for losing Rena. I hope it is a comfort to you to know how many lives she has touched, including mine. She will live in our hearts and continue to inspire us with her beauty, intelligence and strength of character - the full package!!!

On a personal level, I will continue to be inspired by her amazing life. I remain forever grateful for her trust in  "Ralitsa Breaking News Vassileva", the nickname she gave me. I will never forget the opportunity she gave me to go to London, Jerusalem and Moscow as a correspondent.

Rest in peace Rena. I will miss you. With all my love, Ralitsa

03-20-2013 9:45 PM -- By: Jim Schiffman,  From: Milledgeville, Georgia

Rena was more important in my professional life than just about anybody I've worked with or for. Over the course of almost 20 years, she dropped opportunities in my lap at key moments and was always in my corner at CNN. I watched her grow into an amazing executive and build a network into something from almost nothing. And she was always dedicated to the kind of journalism that we all could be proud of, even as she navigated through fields of compromise. Her instincts were always true. I will miss her more than she would know.

03-20-2013 9:24 PM -- By: Lyric Resmondo,  From: Marietta

Rena, I spent so much of my working life with you as a friend and a colleague. We grew up together at CNN and then connected again in our new lives at the Weather Channel and Storyful. Dear Rob, Adam and Sabrina, We all loved Rena and she will be in our hearts forever. She was a wonderful mom and wife. I know she loved you all so much. She will be in our hearts forever. Love Toni, Alan , Elizabeth and Sam.

03-20-2013 7:52 PM -- By: Emily Ra'ed,  From: Marietta, GA

What a true treasure the Golden's, Rena's parents, siblings and family and, in fact,  the world have lost today.  We will hold her in our hearts and memories always.  I am honored to have had the incredible fortune to really get to know and spend time with her over the last few years and, like everyone touched by Rena in so many different ways, am a richer person for it.

Something Beautiful Remains
The tide recedes but leaves behind
bright seashells on the sand.
The sun goes down, but gentle
warmth still lingers on the land.
The music stops, and yet it echoes
on in sweet refrains.....
For every joy that passes,
something beautiful remains.

It is an honor that I got to know Rena over the last few years! She will continue to be an inspiration to me, my family and our team...we will run in your memory!!

Love,

Wendi

03-20-2013 7:43 PM -- By: Lee Van Leuvan,  From: Atlanta

The last time I saw her was on October 10th and although she was so tired, she was going home after our meeting ended at 7 p.m. to work on a project... that was Rena, always pushing.  It always struck me every time we met for the past 9 years that she and Rob were obviously so in love with each other with such a team approach to their lives.  It is so rare to have that true connection.  I will so miss her smile and her attitude... Lee Van Leuvan

Rob and Family, I had the good fortune to have met Rena through the Besty Magness Leadership Institute.  She was vibrant, brilliant, warm and funny.  I cherished our time together and feel blessed to have known her.  I heard all about her handsome husband and beautiful children; she loved you all dearly.  You are in my prayers.  Much Love,

My wife, Jennifer, was Rena's intern and I was her colleague, and we both feel so lucky to have had the chance to intersect with her. She was intelligent, classy, self-possessed, firm in her beliefs, and filled up the room with her presence. A first-rate person and pro. Jen and my thoughts are with Rob and the children at this time; thank you for sharing her with us.
