Shocked and saddened by this news, had the opportunity to meet Rena on her visit to India and will always remember how she thanked me for saving the life of fellow journalist John Radler during the 1999 Indo-Pak war at Kargil in Kashmir.
May her soul rest in peace.

I was one of the lucky ones who worked with Rena at CNN. She was a warm and wonderful person and a great role model of all of us. The last time I saw Rena, I had not seen her in a long while, but she greeted me with warmth, kindness and concern about my life and work. To all of Rena's family---Rob, children, parents and siblings, my deepest sympathy for this tremdnous loss. May she rest in peace. Mary Cardaras.

I am a former CNN-DC Assignment Editor (1996-2000), and I had the privilege of working next to Rob for a month or so in 1999, when my boss John Towriss sent me to the International Desk to lend a hand during the NATO airstrikes against the former Yugoslavia. I never had the opportunity to personally work with Rena, yet I am well aware of how influential and inspirational she was as a manager and a leader at CNN, particularly for so many women working there. In light of her legacy at CNN, it is no surprise to read how valiantly she fought her cancer, and the grace with which she faced her battle, especially at the end. I am truly sorry for your loss. It is clear that for all her achievements, and there were many, her family is what she loved and prized more than anything. I hope that love and her memory sustain you all, and bring you comfort and peace.

On this sad day, Rena I remember your bright smile and the incredible energy you brought to the CNNI newsroom. Your passion for chasing the story made all of us better journalists. Thank you for putting your trust in me when I was a young inexperienced producer and for giving me so many opportunties to grow. Although your life was cut short by this cruel disease, you still touched and inspired more people than others could in a hundred years.
You will be missed.

My heart breaks for Rob and the kids. I will never forget my introduction to the demanding producer of the 3pm show during the first Gulf War... the memory always brings a smile to my face. I was so glad to know the Golden family... seems like we were just at Rena's baby shower at MH's house. But really, it was a lifetime ago. An amazing, graceful, phenomenal lifetime that has left an eternal footprint. Rob, may you smile through your tears and please, lean on the many friends who love you and will join you in cherishing Rena's memory.

Rena was one of the first people I met when we came to America. I remember so clearly how welcoming she was inviting us into her home, and visiting us in ours. She was so hospitable and had a wonderful way of engaging people in genuine conversation. Her kindness and interlligence will be missed. She gave much and left us too early.
Rob, my heart and prayers go out to you and the children.

Rena had many successes in her life, and it was a pleasure to get to know her in the GA State EMBA program. It was always clear that her family was the most important thing in her world, and with all her accomplishments, it was her husband, children and culture of which she was most proud. She will be missed, but has left a strong legacy. May peace be with all of her family.
