03-21-2013 10:59 AM -- By: Penny Manis,  From:

It's not often you can point to someone and say: "You helped make one of my biggest dreams come true" but you did Rena, and I'll be forever grateful for the role you played in my life and career. Your strength and leadership will continue to inspire me. My thoughts and prayers are with Rob and family, Rest in Peace.

03-21-2013 10:59 AM -- By: Jeremy Cohen,  From: The Weather Channel

I am very sorry to hear about the passing of Rena. My condolences go out to you and your family during this difficult time.

I was on one of the teams that worked closely with Rena during her time at The Weather Channel. She was the type of person that made the people around her better. She asked tough, but fair questions and always kept you thinking. It was a privilege to work with her and she will be missed dearly.

03-21-2013 10:47 AM -- By: Gena Somra ,  From: Atlanta

Rena was one of the strongest, bravest women I have ever met. Her tenacity, passion and courage were unparalleled. She was a force to be reckoned with. And she was also a gentle, kind and compassionate soul who cared deeply for others. She genuinely wanted those that worked for her and with her to be the very best they could be, and she worked hard to support them in their dreams and goals. She pushed you to become who she knew you could be, even if you weren't yet able to see what you were capable of. It was such a wonderful gift. And I feel so very  blessed to have worked for her and to have been able to learn from the very best.  Rena,  helped me grow tremendously, not only as a journalist, but also as a human being. She always made time no matter how busy she was to lend an ear, to give advice, to share her wisdom.  IAnd it didnt matter if you were a VJ or a VP...her door was always open. One of the traits I admired most about her-was her   integrity.  She held herself to the highest standard, and was unwavering in her desire to deliver the very best she could. She showed by example, how to be a true leader without compromising who she was, or losing sight of her values. And she stood tall even when she had to stand alone. I cherish the time I have had to be a part of the CNN family she helped build. And sitting here today, I still cannot believe she is gone. I do not want to believe it. It is far too soon.  My heart goes out to Rob, Adam, Sabrina, and family during this most difficult time...and to all the people who were fortunate enough to have their lives touched by such an incredible woman.  God is blessed to have you... such a very special angel with a light so bright, and a heart so full of love. I love you Rena and  I will miss you, your laughter, and your light... always.

03-21-2013 10:46 AM -- By: Jodi Fleisig,  From: Atlanta

Rena, I loved you... and Rob and Sabrina and Adam, I pray you have strength to push you forward. I told my own kids, "We have to celebrate Rena, her zest for life, her smarts, her beauty and be passionate about everything we do."

I joined TNT and Rena was my hero. As i ran the last mile this past Sunday in the Publix Half Marathon,  I talked to her and asked her, laughingly, to push my butt forward -- we only had a little ways to go. She gave me the strength to keep it going.. her name was on my shirt back and her love was in my heart.... and at that moment, what i needed most, was her guts and that mouth in my head, telling me to keep it going!

Rena, you've always been a mentor of mine... You'll be with my always,

Jodi

03-21-2013 10:40 AM -- By: Alicia Gatto,  From: CNNI

such sad news.  I reported directly to Rena for several years at CNNI and she allowed me to work part-time when no one else did, which was a huge blessing to me during the first 3 years of my son's life.  Many prayers to Rob and their children, whom were clearly loved greatly by her.

03-21-2013 10:38 AM -- By: Bobbie Battista,  From: Atlanta

You will be so greatly missed among so many, my dear friend.  But your beauty, grace and intelligence will be forever cherished by all who knew you. Love and strength to Rob and your family.

I am really sorry to hear this news.

Rob, please accept my sincere condolences.

03-21-2013 10:30 AM -- By: Dennis Nesbit,  From: CNN, The Weather Channel

I am saddened by this news. I worked with both Rob and Rena in the early days of CNN. I realized she was at the Weather Channel when I was assigned a trouble call and had to help install equipment in her office here. I was glad to see another CNN employee join the ranks at TWC. My prayers are with Rob and his family.

03-21-2013 10:29 AM -- By: Will King,  From: CNN

The postings on this site serve as touching testimony to Rena's incredible legacy.  From around the world she is being fondly remembered for her contributions to her profession, her notable achievements and most importantly, the love she had for her family.  She will be missed by so many.   My condolences to Rob and the children.  May she rest in peace.

03-21-2013 10:21 AM -- By: Chuck Westbrook,  From: Atlanta

I am so sad that she has passed away.  My heart is with Rob and their children.

She was such a rarity.   It was  a blessing to have had her example as a colleague, leader, and friend..

In our early days at CNN, Rena and I would compare notes as we worked in different areas of the network.   I was thrilled when she took a leadership role at CNN International.  It meant that she would officially influence my work and career.

Long after I stopped reporting to Rena, I'd find my way to her office to get her counsel or simply to check reality.   She was always welcoming and often, as I was walking in, I'd meet someone on the way out who had been there for the same purpose.

On my final day at CNN, I sought her out to express my gratitude, and of course left with encouragment and words of wisdom.

Her influence lives on as those of us who admired her continue to try to be for our colleagues what she was for us.

03-21-2013 10:18 AM -- By: Jeff Thein,  From: Atlanta, GA

I knew Rena only a short time during her Weather Channel tour, but instantly felt the warmth and depth of her character from our few interactions.  How shockingly unfair that someone with such strength, beauty and genuine talent has been stolen from us all.  Let her life and legacy remind us of what is truly valuable during our own short time here.  Let us carry her torch each day, each in our own way.

03-21-2013 10:16 AM -- By: Jennifer Rice,  From: Marietta, GA (The Weather Channel)

Your family is in my thoughts and prayers. I am so sorry for your loss.

03-21-2013 9:58 AM -- By: Ralph Begleiter,  From: Delaware

I'm devastated to learn of Rena's passing, and send my very warmest and most heartfelt sympathy to Rob (who will remember me) and the kids (who won't). Rena has always been a leader and an inspiration at CNN. Her innate qualities - leadership, diligence, compassion, and highest standards - were the qualities which led me to welcome her as my intern in the early 1980's. She and I worked closely (for more than a year, I think) at the State Department beat in the Washington bureau, before she was hired at CNN. We spoke about those days whenever we met subsequently. And in all our later years working together it was a bond of professional friendship that helped us endure the many ups-and-downs of CNN International. Anyone who worked with Rena recognized her talent, strength and insight. Rob was a lucky guy when he met Rena. I wish you well, now, through this terrible transition.

03-21-2013 9:44 AM -- By: Mildred Black,  From: EMBA Class of 2010

In fond and loving memories of Rena. Rena was a beautiful person who I genuinely enjoyed working with and knowing. I learned so much from her in the time we spent together. Words that come to mind: passionate, classy, brilliant, wise, creative, giving, truthful, uncompromising. Thanks for sharing some of your life with us, Rena! Rob, you and the children are in our prayers.

03-21-2013 9:35 AM -- By: Kass Cohen,  From: Atlanta

Rena was a pleasure to work with and a pleasure to know, a true professional who treated everyone kindly.  One nice memory:  while dating, Rob and Rena holding hands under the table at Everybody's Pizza.  We will all miss her.

03-21-2013 9:35 AM -- By: Deb Traynor McKeever,  From:

Rena and Rob are two pivotal people in my trajectory life. If it weren't for Rob and his role in the internships on the international desk. I wouldn't have been introducted to the amazing folks at CNN Jerusalem. If it weren't for Rena bringing me back to the states from Japan -- I wouldn't be in Atlanta....met my husband...had my children. I honor you Rena for your friendship, your heart, your generosity and your smarts. I know a light like yours goes on and on. I pray that Rob, Adam and Sabrina can find the comfort they need through the days ahead.

03-21-2013 9:35 AM -- By: Myra Gnadt,  From: Maryland

Our thoughts are with Rob, Adam, Sabrina, and all of the Zeyas. I wish that I could have known Rena more as an adult, but from the evidence shown all around; She did live life to the fullest and has made an impact on innumerable lives. Rest in Peace Rena.

03-21-2013 9:33 AM -- By: Pamela Steele,  From: Neighbor

Rob, Though I did not know Rena well, working with Sabrina and getting to know Adam, has allowed me to see the strength and ingenuity she built into her children. I know that you both were a great "team" as parents. You studied your children and carefully sought to provide them with an environment that nurtured their many gifts and talents. I know you all will miss her very much! As you know, I am around "a lot" so feel free to call on me to check on the kids when they are home. Praying for you and yours.

Rob,

I still remember the day you asked Rena out on your first date. She was so, so, excited and nervous. She thought you were the best looking, smartest guy...ever. My heart and mind are full of you and the kids. We were all so lucky to have known Rena, but you were the luckiest you were loved by her my friend. Much love to you, Chris

03-21-2013 9:21 AM -- By: Kelli Arena,  From: Washington DC

The thing I will always remember about Rena is her ready smile. The world has lost a bit of sunshine. Rob, my condolences to you and your family.

03-21-2013 9:17 AM -- By: Lyda Ely,  From: New York, NY

I am so saddened to learn of Rena's passing and of the struggle she fought so bravely until the end. Someone with her zest for life, with her compassion and talent, should be with us much, much longer. She was a delight to know and a true inspiration to many. I cherish those days together way back when on the 3pm International Hour in Atlanta. She demanded the best - always. When I ran into her many years later up in New York, she was warm and witty as always. A true person. A person with heart. Thanks Rena. We will miss you dearly.

Much love to to you Rob and to her children during this difficult time. She lives on in you.

Rena.. I know you are looking down, and  feeling all the love from all the people who think the world of you. I will miss our coffee dates outside CNN.com... and our conversations life, work... and raising daughters. Thank you for giving me a shot at CNNI... and for your friendship. I will miss you.

03-21-2013 9:11 AM -- By: Tim Liotta,  From: Marietta, GA

I was the lucky one who became her point of contact at The Weather Channel. She became a hero to me, attacking life with all the vigor one could imagine. She was a professional's professional, yet she always knew how to appreciate the personal side of business relationships. She was intensely private, yet always shared to the fullest. She was our Guardian Angel, and we'll always be in her debt. Knowing Rena Golden has been one of the true highlights of my life.
