 For Rena,

Courage is the only word that can describe the venture of the cancer patient.  I have stage 4 and I will tell you that there is no pain like cancer.  It is it's own animal.  And when it strikes, no one can truly understand except the patietn and maybe those who will be leive him carte blanche.

 My dear Rena,

Not a day passes that I don't remember your radiant smile, your sparkling eyes, the sweet melody of your laugh, and your bottomless heart.  You inspire me always, big sister.

Love, Uzra

12-11-2013 8:19 PM -- By: Derek Guthrie,  From: London

It's not always true that bad news travels fast. I was saddened to learn only tonight that Rena had passed away and offer my condolences to Rob and her family, several months on.

One day in CNN, Rena suddenly found herself working with an independent production company from London - mine - making, of all things, a weekly program about Art which ran to several series.

I cherished  working with Rena, cool, calm and collected, no matter how rumbustious the production process became. We made other series too, which were easier, because Rena's professionalism made it so.

I've often thought of her over the intervening years and assumed she was OK and thriving. I'm very sorry that she fell ill at such a young age.

04-24-2013 1:27 PM -- By: Mary Hilpertshauser,  From: Atlanta and the CNN of long ago

I was sad to hear of Rena's death. I am grateful to have known such a warm, gracious, fair and funny person. She is a true professional and journalist. Rena will live on in her family, the people she touched and our collective memories.

04-24-2013 10:39 AM -- By: Celia Lett,  From: Emory Hospital

I loved Rena so much. I was with her in some of her harder times and was the one to deliver bad news more than once. She always took every road block with such dignity and grace. I am a much better nurse and person for having know her.

04-24-2013 2:00 AM -- By: Alafia,  From: Nigeria

I presently study in Canada and i opened the weather channel tonight and her picture popped up, i wondered to myself why death would be so greedy and take this beautiful woman and she was my birthday mate though i am just 27. I pray her soul would find rest and God would comfort her family and make her two kids turn out perfectly okay.

04-05-2013 10:06 AM -- By: Janice Pielert,  From: Stamford, CT

What a beautifully written tribute to your wife.  God bless her and your family.

03-31-2013 3:08 PM -- By: claudia goodman,  From: atlanta

We told each other we would always be close friends, even when our kids were grown and out of the house. I can't stop thinking of this and have always felt you would be there. You still are--you are there in spirit and I will always remember you. You were an old and dear friend and I will miss you always.

03-30-2013 11:23 AM -- By: Parisa,  From: Atlanta CNN

One of the last times I saw Rena joon was a couple of weeks before she passed.  She had the NYT all over her bed, you could tell she had read every section and she wanted to talk with me about what was happening in Syria and our Pope coverage.  Rena lived news and remained curious to the end.  We spent many quality hours together in the past  two years talking about everything and anything while enjoying some hearty homemade meals which she enjoyed 'til close to the end.  She remained optimistic about life and her plans for the future and while she was fine to talk about the procedures she was enduring, she rarely talked about the pain and the discomfort of the disease.

Today on Rena's birthday, my heart and thoughts are with her mom.  I wish Rena's parents, siblings, Rob joon, Adam and Sabrina great strength.

Rena joon, I miss you very much.

I remember when I first joined Turner and the CNN family, this picture was in my portfolio of people to remember and I did and also had the pleasure of meeting her once when I was part of the CNN team in Hong Kong. I have read and heard much inspiration from this great lady and I know she will be tremendously missed by everyone in the CNN family globally. My condolences to Rob and the family. She lived a great life and will forever be remembered.

03-24-2013 11:05 PM -- By: Terry Pacetti,  From: Newnan, Georgia

I worked with Rena when she first began at CNN and later at CNNI. Her intelligence and confidence shinned above the fray. She was a good friend. I'll never forget the beautiful baby shower she and Bailey Barash gave me. I'll always remember her as the consumate professional, good friend, wonderful wife, and fantastic mother.

My heart-felt condolences go out to Rena's beautiful family: Rob, Sabrina and Adam.

03-24-2013 9:19 PM -- By: Connie Sharenko,  From: Edgewater Cove Subdivision

I was so sad to learn  of Rena Golden's passing.  She was a beautiful lady and every time I saw her at subdivision social events she was warm, charming and a delight to engage in conversation.  My heart goes out to the Golden family and they are in my prayers.  I ask God to wrap them in His arms and give them strength and peace to deal with their grief.

03-24-2013 6:54 PM -- By: Melissa Krost,  From: Atlanta, GA

I'll never forget Rena's kindness as she welcomed Jack and me to Atlanta to continue his career at CNNI. She was always approachable, warm and friendly--rare for an executive.  She didn't even hesitate to welcome me to the CNN Holiday party years ago when I wasn't supposed to be there.  I know everyone at CNN is saddened to see her pass in the prime of her life.

03-24-2013 1:48 PM -- By: Miriam Falco,  From:

I remember meeting Rena, when I was filling in on scripts when she was producing the midnight show on a Fri.  I didn't do scripts (I was one of 2 tapes PA's -same level, but not trained on ripping)- but was helping a friend out.  How hard could it be to distribute 5-ply scripts??? Impossible if both printers run out of paper at the same time and nobody showed me how to reload them.  Well, that's exactly what happened to me... so about half past the hour, I brought Rena's show (and thus the network) to a complete halt.  She came out.. alarmed, but calmly asked me what was going on - listened to my brief explanation and rushed back into the control room.  Before the break was over, 3 people rushed over to help me and we were back in business. A small blip that went unnoticed by anyone at home.   That was a long time ago, but it made a lasting impression on me.  She could have screamed (a lot of people screamed back then).  But she did what had to be done and moved on - and I learned how, when and who call when there's a problem.  As I grew up at CNN, I watched Rena rise.. one of the few women who continued to rise and was a powerful journalist.  She paved a new way, different from the many men who were running most departments.

My heart goes out to Rob and the children. Rena left way too soon.  But there's a smart, beautiful new angel in heaven now.

03-24-2013 11:02 AM -- By: Gail, Dan, Jenna and Michael Weil,  From: Marietta, GA

We will always remember Rena as a compassionate, caring and thoughtful person.  She touched so many lives in many countless ways.  Her positive attitude and outlook on life was truly inspirational.  We send our heartfelt condolences to Rob, Adam and Sabrina.  Rena will truly be missed.

03-24-2013 10:28 AM -- By: Farah Diba Alam,  From: Riyadh, Saudi Arabia

To us you were simply our Rena Aunty, daughter of our 'American Nani'.  As we grew older, we realized you were so much more than that - you were extraordinary.  You were a shining star in a family of overachievers.  You touched more lives and accomplished so much more in your short life than many would dare to dream for themselves.

We are proud to call you family.

Rest in Peace Aunty.

03-24-2013 5:28 AM -- By: Mike Chinoy,  From: long-time CNN colleague

I had the good fortune to be Rena's colleaguer for years at CNN. She was smart, fun to work with, and deeply committed to doing journalism right. I hope we can all learn something from her vision and courage.

My deepest condolences to Rob, Adam, and Sabrina.
